The Andalusian Rural Development Association (ARA) highlighted the Rural Development Group Los Pedroches (GDR Los Pedroches) involvement in MONALISA project in a news article showcasing how Los Pedroches is becoming a living laboratory for innovative soil restoration solutions.
In the Los Pedroches area, project partners have recently carried out a field visit, travelling across the territory from traditional dehesa landscapes to mountain olive groves. During this visit, they collected soil samples that will be analysed in upcoming studies and trials, and they took stock of the condition of crops and tree cover in the comarca. These activities will help to better understand current soil status and design appropriate restoration and prevention measures.
The Spanish contribution to MONALISA is jointly led by GDR Los Pedroches and the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF). Los Pedroches is one of six Mediterranean case-study areas where MONALISA will test and scale a combination of nature-based and high-tech solutions, including innovative grazing systems, organic and microbial-based fertilisers, conservation agriculture practices, water-harvesting and safe reuse of treated wastewater, and ecological and agroecological restoration approaches.
Together, these actions aim to build more resilient rural landscapes and offer practical tools to land managers and local communities facing increasing desertification risks.
