We are thrilled to announce that the MONALISA and TERRASAFE projects will be hosting a joint session at the upcoming European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2025 (EGU25) in Vienna. The session, titled “Innovations to Assess, Prevent, and Combat Desertification” (Session SSS9.4), has officially been approved and is now open for abstract submissions. Scheduled to gather experts across disciplines, this session is an incredible opportunity to exchange groundbreaking research and strategies in the fight against desertification.
This session invites scientists from soil science, hydrology, earth observation, agriculture, biology, and social sciences to discuss their work. Participants will share insights into assessing desertification through satellite imagery, field surveys, and innovative technologies for sustainable land management. This event also marks the beginning of a Community of Practice focused on desertification assessment and sustainable land management innovations. Join us in addressing this global challenge—whether you’re contributing research or expanding your professional network, your involvement is highly valued.
Session is facilitated by:
- Adriana Bruggeman (The Cyprus Institute, Cyprus),
- Jan Jacob Keizer (University of Aveiro, Portugal)
- Nicola Riitano (Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale, Italy),
- Antonio Pulina (University of Sassari, Italy)
