ISPRA

ISPRA is a public research body, with technical, scientific, organizational, managerial, administrative and financial autonomy, subject to the vigilance of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. It is the institutional and technical-scientific reference point for the whole country in the fields of land monitoring, production of environmental data and is directly involved in the land degradation assessment for Italy. ISPRA will be involved in setting up an innovative methodology for assessing and monitoring land degradation and desertification risk in Europe and Mediterranean region. Furthermore, a European knowledge community will be established to create a space for sharing and discussing on desertification.

FRANCESCA ASSENNATO

Environmental engineer, PhD in Energy and environment, Head of Unit for Integrated monitoring of land, land use changes and desertification processes, Geological Department. Research topics: land degradation and desertification, soil health, sustainable management and planning, ecosystem services.

DANIELA SMIRAGLIA

Graduated in Natural Science, PhD in Ecology. Involved in landscape ecology with special reference to spatial pattern analysis. Research topics: assessment and monitoring of ecosystem services, land use/land cover changes, land degradation and desertification processes.

NICOLA RIITANO

Environmental engineer PhD in Landscape and Environment. Expert in remote sensing and spatial analysis. Research topics: land degradation a, land consumption, land use/land cover change.

NICOLA ALESSI

Graduated in Natural Science. Vegetation ecologist with interest in forest diversity and biogeography in the context of global changes and nature conservation. Research topics: biodiversity measurements, management of databases, analyses of large datasets of ecological observations and satellite images.

GIORDANA DE VENDICTIS

Graduated in Law, administrative officer both in administrative activities and in European research projects. Activities in the procurement office dealing with the management of national and European tenders. Responsible of EU project “NET Science Together” funded by Horizon 2020 Program to implement scientific dissemination activities.

MARCO DI LEGINIO

Geologist. He is involved in several desertification projects aiming at collecting data and indicators on land degradation processes. Research topics: land cover/land use mapping, remote sensing techniques for environmental analysis related to urban sprawl and soil sealing indicators.

CLAUDIA CAGNARINI

Chemical Engineer with PhD in Agronomy. Working across the public and private sectors, she gained relevant experience in soil monitoring and modeling. Research topics: soil-plant carbon and nitrogen cycles and soil trace elements.

ANNA LUISE

Sociologist. Involved in several international environmental fora and negotiation processes, such as G20, G20, European Council, etc. She is Scientific and Technical Correspondent of the UNCCD. She is involved in studies and research on sustainable development. Research topics: LDD processes.

FEDERICO SILVESTRI

Biologist. Involved in applied soil and agroecology. Research topics: contaminated sites characterizations, and remediation, air and water quality plans and environmental impact assessment.

LUCA CONGEDO

Environmental engineer. Ph.D. in Landscape and Environment. Working in the field of GIS and Remote Sensing. Research topics: land cover analysis and monitoring.

CARLO JACOMINI

Biologist. Responsible for the Soil & Land Ecology Laboratory in ISPRA (Italy), Co-coordinator of the Working Group on the QBS-ar Index. Research topics: soil biomonitoring.

MARIA GABRIELLA ANDRISANI

Environmental geologist. Expertise in technical assessment and design of Characterization and Remediation Projects. Coordinator of national technical table with Public Administrations concerning intervention priority criteria for potentially contaminated sites. Research topics: soil contamination.

VALENTINA RASTELLI

Degree in Environmental Science, attending the PhD in Science of Cultural Heritage. Extensive experience in negotiations under international environmental agreements and in regulatory review. Engaged in preparing the format for the National Restoration Plans. Very engaged in outreach activities.

ANTONELLA VECCHIO

Degree in Civil Engineering Master in Characterization and Remediation of Contaminated Sites. National representative in many international networks in the field of contaminated land management. Research topics: risk assessment of contaminated sites, environmental modelling.
