The European Mission Soil Week 2024 in Brussels brought together representatives from about 50 groundbreaking projects, hundreds of experts, and countless ideas to secure the health of Europe’s soils for generations to come. As part of this effort, the MONALISA project was proud to play its role in addressing soil challenges, building connections, and exploring innovative solutions.
A Gathering of Soil Guardians
Held at the European Committee of the Regions, this year’s Mission Soil Week celebrated milestones like the establishment of 25 Mission Soil Living Labs and advancements in harmonized soil monitoring across the EU. But most importantly, it showcased a growing community of passionate individuals and organizations united under one vision: A Soil Deal for Europe.
The MONALISA team embraced the chance to dive deep into key topics during the event’s dynamic cluster sessions:
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Unpacking strategies to engage communities and policymakers, including innovative uses of art and social media.
- Data & Knowledge Management: Exploring tools developed by SoilWise project to make soil data more accessible and actionable.
- Soil Indicators & Monitoring: Collaborating on robust frameworks to measure and improve soil health.
Connections That Matter
What truly set this event apart was the personal connections made and space for networking which is highly impactful in the development of all project. We were excited to meet in person with project representatives under the umbrella of the EU Mission Soil. It was inspiring to share ideas with like-minded changemakers and to feel the collective energy driving this mission forward.
A standout moment for MONALISA was reconnecting with TERRASAFE project representatives, Jacob Keizer and Charlotte Chivers, as part of our sister project collaboration..
